Course Price: US $400

Prerequisites:

  • Age 10 years or older (ages 10 – 14 will receive a junior certification)

  • Good level of physical health

  • Ability to swim and float comfortably in water too deep to stand in

  • No prior experience with scuba diving is required

Below is an outline of how Compass runs and schedules the PADI Open Water Diver training:

The course consists of 3 parts:

  1. Knowledge Development: the theory (done at own pace - usually can be finished in 2-3 days by spending just a few hours a day on it)

  2. Confined water training: the swimming pool (1 full day)

  3. Open Water training dives: the diving (2 full days)

The first part you would do by yourself prior to starting the practical sessions of the course, at  your own pace. We would share the PADI Open Water e-learning module and videos with you for you to study it all before the confined water session. All in, it would maybe take up around 6-7 hours of your time in total, but can be broken down across several days so we encourage to get started on the theory about 1-2 weeks before the anticipated in-water training dates. The e-learning module is available in a variety of common global languages like French, German, Portuguese, Korean, Japanese, and others.

Once the theory is completed, we schedule the 'Confined Water' training, during which we would head to a swimming pool to teach you plenty of skills that will contribute for you to build up more confidence into your diving skills before getting into the ocean. It's a one day activity at a pool based in Dili.

Once the pool training is complete, we'd have two more days to go! The 4 open water training dives can either be done in Dili (shore dives) over 2 days, or on Atauro Island (boat dives) with a 3D2N stay at our resort. In the case of opting for Atauro-based diving, additional costs will apply to include your return island transfers and accommodation. Two dives are scheduled on the first day and two on the following - with the first 2 dives being limited to 12 meters of depth and the remaining 2 dives to 18 meters (for divers aged 12 and above). Upon meeting all the performance requirements of the course, you will be certified!
